XOP Mystery Drop: Terms and Conditions
1. Who we are. The XOP Mystery Drop ("the drop") is run by Douglas Laing & Co. Ltd, 19 Mossland Road. These terms apply alongside our standard website terms. If they conflict, these terms apply to the drop.
2. What you are buying. Each order buys one 70cl bottle of Scotch whisky from our Xtra Old Particular (XOP) range, allocated at random from the 300 bottles listed on the product page and in the Schedule below. The price is £149 including UK VAT. Delivery is not included. You cannot choose which bottle you receive. For deliveries outside the UK, please refer to our shipping policy on applicable taxes that may be payable based on your delivery destination.
3. What is in the drop. The drop contains exactly 300 bottles in three tiers:Each bottle's name, ABV and quantity are listed on the drop page and in the Schedule. Every bottle in the drop is, or was last, sold on douglaslaing.com for £200 or more.
o Hero, 3 bottles: Macallan 30 Years Old 1990; Macallan 25 Years Old 1993; Speyside's Finest Platinum 50 Years Old 1967.
o Ultra Rare, 52 bottles, each aged 35 years or older.
o Cornerstone, 245 bottles.
4. How bottles are allocated. All 300 bottles are in the drop from the moment it opens until it closes. No bottle is held back, added later or reserved for anyone. On Tuesday 20 October 2026, after the drop closes, we will allocate bottles to every order in a single random draw using randomised selector script. The draw is witnessed by a member of our shipping team who is not involved in marketing the drop, and we keep a record of it. Every order has the same chance, whenever it was placed.
5. Your chances. If 55 or more orders are placed, every Hero and every Ultra Rare bottle will be allocated to a customer. If all 300 bottles sell, the chance for each bottle ordered is: Hero 3 in 300 (1 in 100); Ultra Rare 56 in 300 (about 1 in 6); Cornerstone 241 in 300 (about 82%). If fewer bottles sell, your chance of a Hero or Ultra Rare bottle is higher. Most orders will receive a Cornerstone bottle. If fewer than 55 orders are placed, every order will receive a Hero or Ultra Rare bottle, allocated at random from those two tiers.
6. Avoiding repeats. If you buy two bottles, we will use reasonable endeavours to make sure they are not the same release. If the Cask Allocator gives you two of the same release, we may swap one of them for a different bottle from the same tier allocated to another customer. We cannot guarantee this in every case. Receiving two of the same release does not entitle you to a refund beyond your rights under clause 12. Any swap happens only within a tier, so nobody’s chance of receiving a Hero, Ultra Rare or Cornerstone bottle changes.Opening and closing.
7. The drop opens at 7pm on Friday 16 October 2026 at 11:45am and closes at 23:59 UK time on Monday 19 October 2026, or earlier if all 300 bottles sell. We will not extend the drop or add bottles to it.
8. Order limit and checks. You can buy a maximum of 2 bottles per customer, household or delivery address. We may verify your identity, age and address. We may cancel and refund any order that breaks these terms, including orders over the limit. Employees of Douglas Laing & Co. and their households cannot take part.
9. Who can buy. You must be at least 18, or the legal minimum age to buy and receive alcohol in the country where your order is delivered if that is higher. The person receiving the delivery must also be that age. We deliver to the UK (excluding Northern Ireland), the EU and the other countries listed on our shipping page. Some countries restrict or ban importing alcohol, or regulate products like this drop differently. We may cancel and refund any order to a country where we cannot lawfully deliver it. Our courier may ask for ID on delivery and will not leave the parcel without it. If delivery fails because the recipient cannot show they are old enough, we will refund you less the delivery cost.
10. Delivery and the reveal. We will dispatch every order between Wednesday 21 and Friday 23 October 2026. Your bottle is revealed when you open the parcel. The outer packaging, packing slip and delivery emails will not identify it. The bottle remains our responsibility until it is delivered to you.
11. This is a purchase, not a competition. Each order buys one bottle. There is no prize, cash alternative, exchange, swap (other than under clause 6) or re-allocation, and we will not buy bottles back.
12. Changing your mind. You can cancel within 14 days, starting the day after your bottle is delivered, without giving a reason. Email douglaslaing@mailmarkuk.com or use the cancellation form [link]. You must return the bottle within 14 days of telling us, and you pay the cost of returning it. We will refund the price and standard delivery within 14 days of receiving the bottle back, or proof that you have sent it. To get a full refund, the bottle must be unopened with its seal intact. If it has been opened, or handled beyond what is needed to inspect it, we may reduce the refund to reflect the loss in value, up to the full price. Returned bottles do not go back into the drop.
13. If something is wrong. If your bottle arrives damaged, faulty or not as described, contact us at [address]. Please tell us within [48 hours] of delivery so we can sort it quickly. This does not affect your legal rights, including at least 30 days to reject faulty goods.
14. If we can't supply your bottle. If your allocated bottle is damaged before dispatch, we will offer you another bottle from the same tier where one is available, or a full refund. If a Hero or Ultra Rare bottle is damaged before the draw, we will update the drop page and counts straight away. Anyone who has already ordered may then cancel for a full refund.
15. Results. Once all bottles have been delivered, we will publish which Hero and Ultra Rare bottles were allocated to which orders, using partly masked order numbers only. We will never publish your name or location without your consent.
16. Pricing errors. If we make an obvious error in the price, we may cancel your order and refund you in full.
17. Your data. We use your details to process your order, verify your age and deliver your bottle, as set out in our privacy notice [link]. We will only send you marketing if you have agreed to it.
18. Law. These terms are governed by the law of Scotland. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can bring proceedings in your local courts and keep the protection of your local consumer law.
