Islay

Islay may be small, but she’s home to no less than eight functioning distilleries, earning her the esteemed title of Scotland’s Whisky Island. Whiskies from Islay are typically (though not always) smoky, with varying degrees of peat used in the barley malting process across the various distilleries. The island environment also affords Islay Whiskies a maritime saltiness, romantically imparted to the spirit as the casks mature below sea-level.
