The Ultimate Distillation of Islay
46% ABV · Sooty and Ashy
Big Peat is a marriage of Single Malt Scotch Whiskies only from the island of Islay. With Caol Ila spirit bringing sweetness, Bowmore the perfect balance, Ardbeg a medicinal, earthy quality and Port Ellen, a degree of elegance, Big Peat represents all that is Islay in a bottle.
Remarkably smoky, with tar, soot and ash
|Nose||Opens fresh, salty and clean - developing to sweet malt dried over peat|
|Palate||Ashes, sweet tar, beaches and smoking chimneys|
|Finish||Long and lingering finish that replicates the palate with salty, tangy liquorice, smoke, bonfire ashes and a phenolic quality|
The Island of Smoke and Peat
Situated off the West coast of Scotland and affectionately known as “The Queen of the Hebrides”, Islay’s Distilleries are renowned for their predominantly peaty, smoky character, all offering variations on the theme of ash, beach bonfires, coal dust and tar. Big Peat captures that archetypal taste of Islay in one truly remarkable bottle.
Don't Panic - It's Our Big Peat
In true Douglas Laing and traditional style, our supremely smoky small batch Malt is bottled at 46% alcohol and proudly presented without colouring or chill-filtration, allowing the natural oily big character of the spirit to reign supreme.
Fill your cocktail shaker with plenty of cubed ice. Add 5cl of Big Peat, 3 dashes of Angostura Bitters, 2.5cl of lemon juice, 1 egg white and 2.5cl of Sugar Syrup. Shake vigorously until the cocktail is cold, before straining into an ice-filled glass and garnishing with a lemon wedge and cherry.
Smoke overload! There's no better pairing for Big Peat than well-charred meat. Try pairing your next dram with a barbecued burger or steak - the flavours of the meat will enhance Big Peat's sweeter side, before packing a long and peaty punch.
Rock Island is the epitome of the islands; an inimitable marriage of Single Malts distilled on the rightly esteemed islands of Islay, Arran, Jura and Orkney.
