The Island of Smoke and Peat
Situated off the West coast of Scotland and affectionately known as “The Queen of the Hebrides”, Islay’s Distilleries are renowned for their predominantly peaty, smoky character, all offering variations on the theme of ash, beach bonfires, coal dust and tar. Big Peat captures that archetypal taste of Islay in one truly remarkable bottle.
Don't Panic - It's Our Big Peat
In true Douglas Laing and traditional style, our supremely smoky small batch Malt is bottled at 46% alcohol and proudly presented without colouring or chill-filtration, allowing the natural oily big character of the spirit to reign supreme.
A characterful balance of smoke and sweetness
Archetypally Islay, Big Peat 12 Years Old delivers charred oak, chimney smoke, rock pools and summer tar, running to a long and lingering finish with brown sugar, bonfire ashes and a real phenolic quality.
Fill your cocktail shaker ¾ full with cubed ice, pour in a large measure of Big Peat – add the equivalent measure of lemon juice, a dash of sugar syrup and egg white. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds until cold. Strain into a glass filled with ice and garnish with a lemon and cherry and a dash of bitters. The Islay character of Big Peat imparts a deep, smoky charm on the classic Whisky Sour… Perfect!
Smoke overload! There's no better pairing for Big Peat than well-charred meat. Try pairing your next dram with a barbecued burger or steak - the flavours of the meat will enhance Big Peat's sweeter side, before packing a long and peaty punch.
Rock Island is the epitome of the islands; an inimitable marriage of Single Malts distilled on the rightly esteemed islands of Islay, Arran, Jura and Orkney.
