Leading distiller, blender, and bottler, Douglas Laing & Co, today announce the release of the The Gauldrons Cask Strength Edition #2.
The Gauldrons brand joined Douglas Laing’s Remarkable Regional Malts in 2017, completing the range of Scotch Whisky regions with the final addition of Campbeltown. This edition joins the existing core bottling and is strictly limited to less than 5,000 bottles.
The Gauldrons, inspired by the eponymous dark sandy coves on Campbeltown’s west shores, literally means “bay of storms”. It was here that King Robert the Bruce, having been defeated by his enemies, was inspired whilst watching a spider building its web with great patience but great difficulty, to try, try and try again. The spider has become synonymous with The Gauldrons’ core expression, featuring again in this new limited edition.
This latest edition’s premium packaging showcases the dark and mysterious Whisky within. Presented in a sleek black bottle, The Gauldrons’ signature apothecary style is highlighted with gold foiling and the bottle is sealed with a golden wax, emitting a mysterious shimmer in candlelight.
Commenting on the new release, Annie Murdo, Brand’s & Social Specialist, said:
“The Gauldrons brand celebrates the rich Whisky history of Campbeltown and this second expression of The Gauldrons Cask Strength Edition cements Douglas Laing’s commitment to showcasing the very best of the Whisky producing region. Building on the success of last year’s release, this edition remains classically Campbeltown with a maritime sweetness balanced by a gentle hint of smokiness. We are looking forward to sharing this edition with Whisky fans globally.”
The Gauldrons Sherry Cask Finish will be available from specialist retailers and online from September 2023. It is expected to retail at £60.00 / €70.00.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: A sea breeze with a hint of bonfire and a some manuka honey.
Palate: Initially a maritime character appears, followed by sweet vanilla and dried oak.
Finish: A distinctly spicy finish with a touch of sea salt, stone fruits, and more honey.
